Once a year during the summer, the City Street Department does line painting in various areas around the City. This includes numerous cross-walks and parking stalls on both City and State roads as well as warning messages (railroad crossings, school, etc.) on the pavement and handicap stalls in City parking lots. The more highly traveled cross-walks are painted twice a year, the second time being just before school starts in the fall.
As part of the "Agility Program", PennDOT paints center lines on approximately 38 roads and streets. This is in exchange for the City sweeping various state highways for PennDOT during the early spring season.
